The internet connection wasn't great this past week so I didn't get a chance to post these pics earlier. I have more - do check again in a day or two. I will add some video clips as well :-)
On the highway - you kind of have to be prepared to stop at random times
My mom...on one of our rides into town
With my sister-in-law, Betsy, and one of my aunts whom I haven't seen in 20 years!
Looking rather tired here...after a few hours of travel in crazy traffic. I made a friend in India - his name is Bruce :-) This was at Betsy's home with their family pet.
Betsy and her dad deciding what snacks to buy
Delicious snacks - it was heavenly walking into this bakery!
Indian savory snacks...always a good time!
"The Darling Bakery" right by my parents' home - looked so pretty...and tasty!
I just found this interesting.
This was in one of the cars we rented - "Pokemon Designers Car Seat Company" - LOL!!!
The auto-rickshaw...a cheap and efficient way to get around town [other than walking of course] - these little guys can get through any type of traffic.
Another monkey sitting on the wall in the backyard...they love to swing on the neighbor's clothes lines and wear the clothes and cause all kinds of other havoc. They show up in groups...babies and all...usually jump up and down on the roof of my parents' garage and then shake the fruit off the trees...makes such a loud thundering noise.
Frequent visitor to my parents' neighborhood [sitting on the wall by their house] - the Hindus in the community see the monkey as one of the gods so they never chase them off...some give the monkeys food which causes them to keep coming back.
The fruits/veggie stand at Harish Stores
One of the aisles at Harish Stores - a little "we've got everything" store that we've frequented often for odds and ends.
The finger bowls at restaurants - to wash your hands :-)
A "Thali" meal [thali = platter] - South Indian vegetarian meal that cost only 60 Rupees (about $1.20). It cost our family of five 450 Rupees for lunch (about $9.30 for the whole meal), and we couldn't even finish what was on our plates. This is one serving by the way...with a banana leaf at the bottom of the plate [it really gives the food some extra flavor].
A new toll gate on the way to Vellore, where my parents live.
More flooding - folks just go on with life.
Driving through flooded streets in Chennai

My brother and I leading some worship at the dinner reception [my dad in the background - our back-up vocal - lol :-)]. We weren't prepared...since we had just landed in the country a few hours before...but it was a joy to take part. Betsy's dad had brought along a 12-string guitar...I couldn't do it justice as well as my friend Scott Huebl would have done, but I tried ;-)
So sweet ;-) Happy Birthday dear sis-in-law!
We arrived in India on Betsy's b-day - getting ready to go for a dinner/reception that evening [actually a surprise b-day celebration for Betsy]. I was still rather jet-lagged.
My sister-in-law, Betsy, had arrived in India earlier in November - she and my brother were quite thrilled to see each other ;-)
With my brother, Praveen, at the Chennai airport - ah India! :-)
On the last leg of the trip [Dubai to Chennai] - a lovely Indian meal on United Arab Emirates. Great airline by the way.
Landing in Dubai in the evening - absolutely beautiful!

Nal,
Thanks for posting the pics! So great to be able to picture all of your experiences, and have mental images of the stories you will tell for years to come:) SO glad that you are safe considering the recent attacks--like other posts commented, I think many of your friends had mini panic-attacks, and have been motivated to study up on their Indian geography:) Me for sure!
Your helpful clock says it's about 5:30 am for you right now. Blessings on the new day that will soon begin for you! Miles sends a big wet kiss (drooling abounds lately!)
Love you friend!
Megan

Awesome pics! You are amazing ... and I am now even more hungry than I was after reading your last post. I found myself drooling [metaphorically] on my keyboard while viewing those bakery pics.

It looks like you are very happy and content being in India again, and that's great to see!!! You look very pretty in your red dress (how do you call it..?? I know it's not a sari).
Enjoy everything!!!!!
